@@@@@Life's a hard thing and nobody gives you nothingEvery man's hand is against you, that's what you also find out
Then he was wrong, FatherHe's right and I'm right, and it's just in religion you act one way, and in business, which is a lesser thing, well, you go about things in another wayIt's still Christian

Nearly everybody in this town hates me, Cyrus saysThey hate you too, Edward, you might as well learn it early, ain't nothing they hate like a success, and you're sure gonna be one, if they don't like you they can still lick your boots

The mother and the son pack up the paints and easel, start back in the chilly spring afternoon from their jaunt outside the town, sketching the meager hills on the plain
Have a good time, Eddie dear? Her voice has a new trill in it now, a new warmth when they they are alone
When I was a little girl, I always used to dream I'd have a little boy and I'd go out with him and paint, just like thisCome on, I'll teach you a funny song while we go back
What is Boston like? he asks
Oh, it's a big city, it's dirty, coooold, everybody's always dressed up
    Like Pa?
She laughs doubtfullyNow, don't you say anything to him about what we did this afternoon
    Was it wrong?
No, now you just march right on home with me, and don't say a word to him, it's a secret
He hates her suddenly, and is quiet, moody, as they walk back to the townThat night he tells his father, listens with a kind of delicious glee and fright to the quarrel that follows
I'm going to tell you that that boy is all your fault, you indulge him, you bring out the worst in him, you never could get over leaving Boston, now, could you, we're really not fine enough out here for you
I'll be damned, I'm going to send him to military school, he's old enough to shift for himself, at nine years old a boy has to start thinking how to act like a manMilitary school's all right, that boy likes to listen to things about the war
What is partially behind it all is the conversation Cyrus has had with the town doctorThe fabulous beard, the hard shrewd eyes have twinkled at him, got a little of their own back

CUMMINGS put in a busy week after Hearn was transferred to Dalleson's sectionThe final and major assault on the Toyaku Line, which Cummings had been postponing for almost a month, had become virtually a necessityThe character of the messages he had been receiving from Corps and Army permitted no further delay and Cummings had his informants in higher echelons as well; he knew he would have to produce some success in the next week or twoHis staff had developed the attack plan through its final variations louis vuitton multicolore and details, and the assault was scheduled to start in three days
But Cummings was unhappy with itThe force he could muster would be relatively powerful for the few thousand men involved, but it was a frontal attack and there was no reason to assume it would be any more successful than the attack that had preceded it and failedThe men would advance, and halt probably to a crawl at the first serious resistanceThere would be no compulsion for them to keep moving
Cummings had been toying with another plan for several weeks, but it depended on receiving some naval support, and that was always doubtfulHe sent out a few cautious tiffany's jewelry feelers and received some contradictory answers which had left him undecided; the secondary plan had been sidetracked in his mind before the need to produce something tangible and effectiveBut it was this other plan that intrigued him, and at a conference of his staff officers one morning he decided to draw up an additional set of plans which would incorporate the naval support
This other plan was simple but powerfulThe extreme right flank of the Toyaku Line was anchored on the water's edge a mile or two behind the point where the peninsula joined the islandSix miles to the rear of that was a small cove called Botoi BayThe General's new gucci backpacks plan was to land about a thousand men at Botoi and have them drive inland on a diagonal to take the center of the Toyaku Line from the rearAt the same time his frontal attack, reduced in strength, of course, would drive forward to meet the invading troopsThat invasion could work if the landing was successful
Only that was the doubtful part of itThe General had enough landing craft assigned him for ferrying supplies from freighters off the island to be able to transport his invasion troops in one wave if necessary, but Botoi Bay was almost out of range of his artillery, and air reconnaissance had shown that fifty or perhaps even a fake prada hundred Japanese troops were entrenched in bunkers and pillboxes on that stretch of beachArtillery couldn't drive them out nor dive bombersIt would take at least one destroyer and preferably two firing at point-blank range, perhaps a thousand yards offshoreIf he were to send a battalion in without naval support a bloody and disastrous massacre would occur
And the beach at Botoi Bay was the only place where he could land troops for at least fifty miles down the coastPast Botoi some of the densest jungle forests on Anopopei grew virtually into the water, and nearer his own front line were bluffs too steep to be scaled by invasion bags dolce gabbana tr

    A Lesson From Robert Frost

Robert Frost is my favourite poetAlthough I love many of his poems, my favorite is The Road Not TakenI use its lesson almost daily:

    The Road Not Taken

    Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I gucci mens wallet could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden blackOh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads onto way, I doubted if I should ever come back
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence; Two roads diverged in a wood, and I balenciaga replica took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference
    Robert Frost(1916)

And that made all the difference
Over the years, I have often reflected upon Robert Frost's poemChoosing not to listen to my highly educated dad's advice and attitude about money was a painful decision, but it was a decision that shaped the rest of my life
Once I made up my mind whom to listen to, my education about money beganMy rich dad taught me over a period of 30 years, until I was age 39He stopped once he realized that I knew and fully understood what he had been trying to drum into my often thick santos cartier s

every time I was unsure of myself, which seemed to be often these days
I'd inherited a different role in the human communityPeople carried things for me now and let

and not used to laborI tired easily, and my attempts to hide that fooled no oneI probably
couldn't have run a mile without stopping
There was more to this easy treatment than just my physical weakness, thoughI was used to a
pretty face, but one that people were able to look at with fear, mistrust, even hatredMy new
    face defied such emotions
People touched my cheeks often, or put their fingers under my chin, holding my face up to see it
betterI was frequently patted on my head (which was in easy reach, since I was shorter than
everyone but the children), and my hair was stroked so regularly that I stopped noticing when it

same size as his–while chattering excitedly with me about Spiders and Dragons, soccer and

too thoroughly before for her reassurances to change things now
Even Maggie and Sharon, though they still tried not to look at me, could not maintain their
    former rigidity in my presence
My body was not the only changeThe monsoons came late to the desert, and I was glad
For one thing, I'd never smelled the rain on the creosotes before–I could only vaguely remember
